What is Spike for Tykes?
Spike for Tykes is a special 24-team high school boys’ volleyball tournament benefiting Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Each year, teams are paired with a "Tyke." A tyke is a patient champion who has overcome adversity with the support of Nationwide Children's Hospital. Each tyke represents a different department within the hospital. Money donated on behalf of a tyke will be donated to that tyke's hospital department.
Why Spike for Tykes?
Spike for Tykes is about giving back and supporting the hospitals who care for our children when we cannot. If you have ever had a child of your own in the hospital, you know how important it is that your child receive the best care possible. Every donation helps ensure caregivers are better enabled to care for your child when they are in need.
How can you help?
Anyone can help by attending the event and making a donation. Money contributed at the event and online is donated to Nationwide Children's Hospital. We've already received generous support from organizations and companies like the Ohio Valley Region, Sports Imports, VolleyWrite, The Rusty Bucket, the Greater Columbus Sports Commission and Capital University. With sponsors like these, we are able to hold a charity event like Spike for Tykes.
When is Spike for Tykes?
In 2017, Spike for Tykes is being held on Friday, May 5 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. We chose May 5 so we could take advantage of a great volleyball facility and pair up the event with the NCAA Men's Division I Volleyball Championships that are being held at The Ohio State University on May 4 & May 6. We are also working with the NCAA and OSU to obtain discount tickets for all participating teams. This is a great opportunity to compete in a great tournament, watch some inspiring volleyball and give back to a great cause!
What teams are participating?
Last year we had 16 teams from across the state of Ohio competing. In 2017 we are expanding the format to include 24 teams.
